About Riley Maloney
Riley Maloney is an RDN and LDN with six years of clinical experience helping individuals recover their relationships with food, recover from eating disorders, and improve health without restrictive dieting. Based out of Chicago and contributing nutrition expertise to Erothots, Riley has guided over 800 clients on their path toward food freedom and body acceptance.
Riley stands apart from traditional dietitians by taking an innovative, Health At Every Size (HAES) approach. By rejecting diet culture and weight-focused interventions, Riley supports clients to enhance their wellbeing at whatever size their bodies settle at – something supported by research that proves weight-focused interventions often undermine physical and mental wellbeing; in comparison, HAES principles lead to sustained improvements in behavior change and outcomes.
Riley’s nutrition philosophy is rooted in providing a space that is safe and free of judgment, where clients feel truly heard and understood. Nutrition care, she believes, should be a conversation between two parties, not a one-way delivery of dos and don’ts; clients should have an active role in shaping their treatment. All subject to change with time; so the process of strangengineirng is sustainable because changes are from within rather than top down.
Riley makes individualized treatment a priority, creating interventions based on the developmental phase of the client as well as their financial and physical capabilities and emotional requirements. She knows that what works for one person may not work for another, and that a cookie-cutter meal plan doesn’t account for the complexity of individual lives, bodies and circumstances.
Her specialized expertise includes eating disorders (anorexia, bulimia, binge eating disorder, ARFID), disordered eating patterns and food obsession, sports nutrition with emphasis on fueling performance rather than changing body size, oncology and hematology nutrition for cancer patients, pediatric nutrition with family-based approach, gastrointestinal conditions (IBD, IBS, GERD, Crohn’s disease), diabetes management without weight focus, food intolerances and elimination diets done thoughtfully, exercise addiction and compulsive movement, hormonal imbalances including PCOS and thyroid conditions.
Riley’s approach can be particularly effective for individuals who have attempted multiple diets but failed, who experience guilt around food consumption, binge eat or restrict, are recovering from eating disorders, are athletes needing fueling properly or have digestive issues caused by food anxiety; or want a healthier relationship between food and body.
Riley has earned rave reviews from clients as being welcoming, nonjudgmental and genuine in caring about their well-being. Many report working with Riley being their first time feeling secure to discuss food and body image without worrying they’d be told they needed to lose weight or adhere to restrictive regulations.
No matter your nutrition needs: from recovering from an eating disorder or managing chronic health conditions to optimizing athletic performance or simply finding ways to heal relationships with food, Riley provides personalized, evidence-based care tailored specifically for you and your lived experience.
