About Dr. Richard C. Senelick
Richard C. Senelick, M.D., is a now-retired physician who double-boarded in neurology and in the subspecialty of neurorehabilitation — a specialty focused on restoring function and independence as well as quality of life to patients with neurological injury or illness.
Dr. Senelick was for 30 years the Medical Director of Encompass Rehabilitation Hospital, an acute rehabilitation hospital in San Antonio, Texas, that is one of the nation’s leading such facilities. In that role, he led clinical programming for patients recovering from stroke, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury and complex neurological conditions and built one of the country’s most experienced neurorehabilitation teams.
Dr. Senelick leads the clinical side of our group but has also been involved in academic life as well, serving as an adjunct professor at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio, embedding the next generation of neurologists into learning to care for patients with nerve injury and formation on a broad scale. His academic work also demonstrates a strong desire to facilitate the transfer of clinical wisdom learned in the rehabilitation arena to those who will carry this specialty forward.
Dr. Senelick brings a rare and authoritative combination to Erothots: three decades of hands-on counseling, academic credentialing at a leading medical institution and the capacity to translate complex neurological content into advice that patients and families can actually use
